Selangor Journal: Selangor MB confident Malaysia can become economic powerhouse
SHAH ALAM, July 21 — Malaysia, and by extension, Selangor, has successfully demonstrated its ability to become an economic powerhouse, driven by a skilled workforce united by a multicultural, harmonious society.
This has largely been the history of the country and its leading state, said Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who emphasised the strength of Malaysians, being able to live in harmony in a multicultural society.
Amirudin said there is a new vision propelled by the Unity Government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to rally local and international investors’ confidence in Malaysia’s efforts to achieve its ambitions as a major economic centre.
“In the global context, 67 years is difficult to compare with countries that have achieved 100 or even 200 years of independence, or historic superpowers that once conquered vast continents.
“However, Project Malaysia has a new opportunity envisioned by today’s national leadership, which emphasises unity as the foundation and cornerstone of nation-building that we must preserve and strive towards.
“This is especially important in the efforts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, supported by his team in the Cabinet, who are actively restoring the country’s reputation on the international stage to rebuild investor confidence that Malaysia is the most unique multicultural country in the world for long-term investment,” he said in his speech at the launch of the National Month at the Cyber Event Hall, Cyberjaya, earlier today.
Amirudin said the nation has highly capable human capital to lead hi-tech industries such as automation and green energy transition, as well as existing opportunities in fields like semiconductors, offering high-quality job opportunities for its people.
Using Selangor as an example, he said the state is at the forefront of realising this dream, having contributed 25.9 per cent to the national economy with a growth rate of 5.4 per cent.
Selangor is also the first state in Malaysia to develop an economy exceeding RM400 billion, with a value of RM406.1 billion recorded last year, said Amirudin.
“With initiatives like the First Selangor Plan, and crucial documents advocated by the prime minister such as the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, the National Energy Transition Roadmap, the Madani Economy framework, and 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review, these aspects play an essential role,” said Amirudin.
To achieve this dream, however, Amirudin said the public must not be swayed by slander and fake news, which could lead to disharmony in local communities.
He reiterated the need to stay away from engaging in inflammatory subjects, especially cases involving race, religion, and royalty, or “3R”.
“The current challenge for the public is to filter fake news to avoid being easily influenced by unverified information.
“Posting statuses, comments, tweets, images, memes, or videos without understanding socio-cultural factors and racial sensitivities can cause discomfort, insult, or offend.
“If not controlled, it can lead to conflicts, fights, or riots in a community that lives peacefully and harmoniously,’’ he said.
He urged the public to always verify information and adopt a cautious attitude before sharing anything on social media.
