Selangor Journal: Exco encourages creative expressions to uplift Selangor as cultural hub
PETALING JAYA, June 9 — Allocations will be provided annually to organise arts and culture programmes in line with the aim of elevating Selangor as a creative industry hub.
State executive councillor for tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said agencies like the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI, and Tourism Selangor are also ready to support such efforts and showcase local talents.
“The 2024 Design and Craft Festival (Tukang), organised by Tourism Selangor, is among the excellent examples of events to nurture arts and heritage. A programme like this can also attract tourist to the state.
“MBI and Tourism Selangor are also ready to support local artists with funding, by looking at the available budget to highlight their talents, like the Tukang Festival in the future,” he said.
Ng was speaking at a press conference after officiating Tukang’s closing ceremony at The Spine @ PJKita, Petaling Jaya today.
Meanwhile, he said the state government also focuses on expanding programme to hone local artists’ talents in the creative arts via the local authorities.
“Selangor encourages talented youth to contact the local authorities through the tourism committee section in their respective areas to present their works and products for examination for promotional purposes.
“In addition to the local authorities, various higher education institutions which support artistic talents like Dasein Academy of Arts and The One Academy can be platforms to showcase their works,” Ng said.
