Selangor Journal: Distribution of Jom Shopping Deepavali vouchers to B40 group almost complete

KLANG, Nov 2 — Almost all Indian communities in the state constituencies have received the RM100 Jom Shopping vouchers for the upcoming Deepavali festival.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said each constituency received around 400 to 600 vouchers, aimed at helping the needy group shop for essential items at selected grocery stores.

He said the initiative, first introduced in 2010, has been carried out every year including during Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Chinese New Year.

“As of now, the distribution is ongoing and I was told that it is nearly complete with Sentosa constituency being the highest recipients of over 600 people,” Amirudin said after visiting Little India in Klang earlier today.

He added the proposal to replace the shopping vouchers with cash will be considered in the Selangor Budget this month.

“We are mulling over the proposal during the budget tabling. I still have time to monitor how we want to distribute aid,” he said.

Introduced by the state government, Jom Shopping Raya targets the low-income group (B40) as a long-term initiative to ensure the wellbeing of Selangorians.
