The Sun Daily: All 56 Selangor assemblymen urged to contribute RM5,000 each to help Gaza residents
SHAH ALAM: All 56 Selangor assemblymen have been urged to contribute RM5,000 each to a humanitarian fund for Palestine proposed to be established for them to help the victims of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Pua Pei Ling, stated that if this initiative materialises, a total of RM280,000 could be collected and channeled to alleviate the hardships faced by the people of Gaza due to the unending humanitarian crisis resulting from attacks by the Zionist regime in Israel.
“Despite being hundreds of kilometres away, the presence of us in this honourable Assembly as leaders does not diminish our commitment to play our role as assemblymen (to assist the people of Gaza).
“I propose to the Menteri Besar (Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari), the state executive councillors and all other assemblymen, regardless of party affiliation, to jointly establish a fund for contributions from Selangor assemblymen under the supervision the Selangor State Assembly Speaker, with each assemblyman contributing RM5,000,“ she said.
She said this when debating the Supply Enactment Bill 2024 in the State Assembly today.
Pua pointed out that currently, the people of Gaza are surrounded from all directions, and ambulances can no longer move.
“Water, food, and electricity are cut off, and hospitals are also being targeted by the Zionist forces in Gaza. We are witnessing the worst humanitarian crisis involving genocide and ethnic cleansing happening right before our eyes,“ she added.
On October 27, the Selangor state government contributed RM1 million to the Palestinian People’s Humanitarian Trust Fund (AAKRP) to alleviate the suffering of the people of Palestine.
The contribution was handed over by Amirudin to the Secretary of the West Asia Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Zahairi Baharim, at the Selangor State Secretariat Building.
Israel has launched relentless air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since Oct 7, killing more than 11,000 Palestinians including over 7,800 women and children, and injuring over 29,000 others.–Bernama
