The Star: Selangor's Selangkah inks MoU to share data with Padu

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor and Federal governments have signed a memorandum of understanding to share data in the state’s Selangkah Ventures Sdn Bhd with the Central Database Hub (Padu).

Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin signed for the Statistics Department of Malaysia while Selangkah Ventures Sdn Bhd chief information officer Dr Helmi Zakariah signed for the state subsidiary.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who witnessed the signing here on Wednesday (April 3), said Selangkah carried the information of recipients of the state government’s various social welfare schemes.

“Some 3,712,616 (particulars) of 66,216 subsidy recipients from the Selangkah application can be shared with Padu subject to terms and conditions," Amirudin said in his speech at the MoU signing.

He said the state was prepared to share the data because it did not want its residents to miss out on the various schemes offered by the Federal Government, especially the upcoming targeted subsidies.

The Mentri Besar also said the transfer and cross-checking of data between Selangkah and Padu is scheduled to be implemented on April 19.

Amirudin told a press conference later the state had continuously promoted Padu by opening 3,221 counters throughout Selangor from Jan 2 to Sunday (March 31), in addition to working together with the Economy Ministry in engaging community leaders.

He added that the state government was aware that sound and accurate data was needed to develop and implement sustainable national policies for the people.

He said that as of the Padu registration deadline on Sunday, 1.89 million Selangor residents aged 18 and above, or 44.5% of the 4.24 million eligible, had updated their details in the system.

Dr Mohd Uzir said Selangor was the first state to sign an MoU directly with his department while other states had initiated a government-to-government collaboration with Putrajaya.
