The Star: Polling eve holiday for S’gor
SHAH ALAM: The eve of polling day, Nov 18, will be a public holiday in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
The Selangor executive council in a meeting yesterday decided to declare Nov 18 a state public holiday because Selangor had the highest number of registered voters in the country, said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Following automatic registration as well as the lowering of the voting age, Selangor has 3.677 million voters.
Amirudin said the public holiday, set to be gazetted by Selangor, would cover both the public and private sectors.
He added that there were legal provisions that gave the state government the authority to declare certain public holidays.

The proposed public holiday, he said, had received the endorsement of all state executive councillors.
