The Malaysian Insight: Dengue cases down 22% on previous week
THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 1,877 cases of dengue fever for the week to April 22, a drop of 21.8% compared to the 2,399 cases in the previous week.
Health director-general Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said one death due to dengue fever complications was also reported during the past week.
He said 35,202 cases have been reported this year to date, compared to 11,921 cases in 2022, which is an increase of 195%.
“There were 22 deaths reported compared to six deaths for the same period last year,” he said in a statement today.
According to Radzi, 116 hotspots were reported this week, seven more than the previous week, 62 of which were in Selangor, 32 in Penang, eight in Sabah, seven in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, three in Perak, two in Kedah, and one each in Sarawak and Labuan.
Radzi added that three chikungunya cases were recorded, with two cases in Selangor, and one case each in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
There have been 120 chikungunya cases this year. Meanwhile, he said 888 blood samples and 33 urine samples were screened for Zika and the results were all negative. – Bernama, April 26, 2023.
