Selangor Kini: Selangor allocates RM1 mln to provide free legal aid for its citizens

PETALING JAYA, July 24 — People in Selangor will now be able to get free legal advice under the Selangor Legal Aid Fund (DBGS) programme.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government’s initiative in collaboration with the Malaysian Bar Council and Selangor Bar Council involved the allocation of RM1 million.
“We are aware that there are many urban poor in Selangor who are exposed to unlawful activities. So now they can get legal advice from the Selangor Bar Council under this allocation.
“Those who cannot afford to get fair legal process either at the state level or the Federal level could apply for this service,” he said at a media conference after launching the Selangor Penyayang roadshow here today.
Amirudin said the fund will be managed by state executive councillor for social welfare V Ganabatirau and further details regarding the initiative will be announced by the middle of August.
“We hope the rights and welfare of those involved will be protected through this programme,” he said.
