Selangor Journal: Selangor sets sights on becoming Asean logistics hub — Exco
SHAH ALAM, March 24 — Selangor has the potential to become Southeast Asia’s leading logistics hub due to its strategic location, said Ng Sze Han.
The state executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility said there is currently a high demand for the industry as Selangor has grown to become a hub for the country’s trade activities.
“Selangor’s logistics sector is still insufficient even though we market our products not just within the state but also to other states and global markets.
“We have not set any targets, but we aim to make Selangor a logistics hub because of our strategic location. Moreover, the industry is also growing every year,” he told a press conference after the groundbreaking ceremony for the PTT Logistics Hub 1 warehouse at the exhibition gallery of PTT Synergy Group Bhd in Bukit Jelutong, here today.
The construction of the warehouse worth RM150 million is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of next year, covering an area of 1.49 hectares in Elmina Business Park, Sungai Buloh.
The smart warehouse would also be fully automated and would not require the services of foreign labour, which could increase productivity.
Ng also invited more investors to Selangor and fully utilise technology in their respective fields in an effort to lessen reliance on foreign labour.
“Our challenge is the labour shortage we face, where we need to import labour from outside. With smart factories, we can address the issue and improve productivity.
“When productivity improves, we can increase wages as these are related to one another. The state government would like to see salary increases,” he added.
