Selangor Journal: Selangor govt mulling to hold Selangor Agro Fest at larger scale

SHAH ALAM, Jan 9 — The state government is planning to organise the Selangor Agro Fest (SAF) on a larger scale this year, which was last held in 2019.

State executive councillor for agriculture Izham Hashim said the event is scheduled to be held in February or March at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam.

“We aim to provide a bigger platform for the entrepreneurs to introduce their products at the event.

“A meeting will be held in February to discuss all details related to the agricultural programmes under the Selangor Agro Transformation Plan,” he said when contacted today.

Izham said the state government is also planning to collaborate with the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry to organise the event.

He said that such an expo would help encourage more participation in the agricultural sector among the younger generation, which would introduce a new batch of agropreneurs.

“We want to expand the urban agro programme to include melon and vanilla farming and freshwater lobster breeding.

“This effort would give exposure to the younger generation who lost their jobs but are interested in being involved in the agricultural sector,” he said.

Since 2012, the annual SAF event has aimed to empower and develop the agricultural sector, which would in turn help in increasing the income for entrepreneurs in the state.

Apart from exhibitions related to farming, breeding and fisheries, the carnival also features various other programmes such as agricultural product sales, traditional foods, food trucks, kids’ activities and performance by local artists.
