Selangor Journal: Selangor allocates over RM65 mln to focus on six public health initiatives — Exco

SHAH ALAM, April 7 — Mental health and healthy ageing for senior citizens are among the six areas on which the state’s public health initiatives will focus on for 2023, said state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

She said Selangor is prioritising the people’s health and well-being as one of its key focuses, with RM65.6 million to that end.

“The other aspects include non-communicable diseases like heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease, as well as infectious diseases like dengue and tuberculosis

“Alongside these, cancer like that of the breast and cervix for women and the prostate and bowels for men, as well as children’s nutrition, will also be looked at,” Dr Siti Mariah said in a Facebook post, in conjunction with World Health Day.

She added all the aforementioned initiatives do not include various other initiatives like health financial assistance for the public and for civil servants.

“This is to ensure good health care remains accessible to all Selangor residents, regardless of their background,” Dr Siti Mariah said.

On the subject of World Health Day, which falls on April 7 every year, she said it is to raise awareness and draw the global community’s attention to health issues that can impact human life.

“World Health Day also provides space for local communities to learn of public health programmes which the health authorities are carrying or have carried out,” Dr Siti Mariah said.
