Selangor Journal: Selangor accelerator programme a catalyst for entrepreneurial pursuits in the State

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — The Selangor Accelerator Programme (SAP) has made a significant contribution in supporting Selangor’s entrepreneurial landscape by serving as the backbone for many startups and providing guidance from conception to execution, said Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lim Yi Wei

Speaking to attendees at the SAP Awards 2023 closing ceremony today, Lim said these initiatives demonstrate the state administration’s commitment to supporting and promoting local startups and small and medium-sized enterprises globally.

“The SAP, backed by the Selangor government, has played a pivotal role in fostering entrepreneurial growth, providing startups with a nurturing environment to develop their ideas, access mentorship, and secure funding for scaling their ventures.

“This year, SAP has accomplished an impressive series of 13 workshops, five industrial visits, and five intensive pitching mastery sessions.

“Currently, our startups are proudly showcasing their innovations as part of Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy 2023, within the larger framework of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2023, which features a grand total of 1,006 exhibition booths,” she said at the event held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, in conjunction with the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS), which ends today.

Lim said some of the fiercely competitive cohort of the SAP includes startups in the fields of plant-based meat products, autonomous robotics for palm oil tree fertilisation, composite machinery addressing food waste, and superfood production with cutting-edge sprouting technology.

Meanwhile, Lim added that the objectives of the programme are also in line with the federal government’s commitment to helping local startups and entrepreneurs, following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of the RM1 billion allocation in Budget 2024 to supplement private investment.

Similarly, the government has allocated an additional RM100 million to support research, development, commercialisation, and innovation in renewable energy, food security, and emerging industries.

“These efforts by both state and federal authorities underscore the commitment to promoting and bolstering the startup ecosystem in Malaysia,” said Lim.

The event today celebrated the programme’s sixth cohort, showcasing a group of 40 contestants who pitched their groundbreaking ideas.

This year, the top ten winners of SAP 2023 will have the exclusive opportunity to present their innovative ideas at the Meet Taipei 2023 expo and participate in enriching visits to premier tech companies in Taiwan.
