Selangor Journal: PKPS extends affordable sales prog to over 1,800 Selangor locations

SHAH ALAM, Jan 2 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) is extending its Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER) programme to more than 1,800 locations in the state this year.

Its senior marketing manager Md Fazir Abdul Latif said the locations are separate from the programme offered at selected Segi Fresh Supermarket branches, which provides discounted sales on essential items during weekends.

“This year, we aim to organise the programme (JER) at more than 1,800 locations. PKPS will collaborate with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) to hold the programme in at least four areas daily.

“To ensure more can benefit from the programme, we aim to include additional Segi Fresh supermarket branches to offer PKPS products at affordable prices.

“Besides that, MPs, state assemblymen, or village heads can also apply online to organise the initiative. Further details regarding the application process will be provided soon,” he told SelangorKini.

Scheduled to begin on January 15, JER offers daily goods at affordable prices, including standard chicken at RM10 per pack, fresh meat for RM10 per pack, Grade B chicken eggs (RM10 per tray), mackerel (RM6 per pack), five-kilogramme cooking oil (RM25), and five-kilogramme rice (RM10).

On September 22 last year, state executive councillor for agriculture Izham Hashim said the state government allocated RM40 million in subsidies for the affordable sales programme to 2,850 locations, benefitting over five million people.

Besides organising the programme at selected locations every day except Fridays and public holidays, PKPS has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Segi Fresh to extend its outreach to residents.

PKPS also received the 2023 Quality Management Award due to outstanding success, including the operation of the JER programme.

In 2022, the state administration initiated a discounted sales programme to extend the Selangor Agro Prihatin programme, introduced on June 2, 2021, under the Kita Selangor 2.0 initiative.

The initiative’s objective was to address the surplus of agricultural produce resulting from the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
