Selangor Journal: New railway line to drive northern Selangor’s economy — Exco
SHAH ALAM, July 8 — The addition of a railway line connecting Klang with the northern areas of the state is set to drive economic growth in the future.
State executive councillor for trade, investment, and mobility Ng Sze Han said the high-impact project included in the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) would also stimulate the local economy by offering more job opportunities, including highly skilled jobs.
“This Selangor Rail Line will develop areas like Kapar, Jeram, Kuala Selangor, Sekinchan, and Sabak Bernam, thus balancing urban and rural development.
“Undoubtedly, this project will pave the way for new townships in the future, as well as create job opportunities,” he told SelangorKini.
On Thursday (July 4), the Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari presented the RS-1’s Mid-Term Review during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session, where he said the Selangor Rail Line can potentially develop the economies of small towns in the northern part of the state.
Efforts complementing the East Coast Rail Link to connect Selangor with the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia also benefit the border areas of Perak.
In this year’s budget, the state government will conduct a feasibility study for the Selangor Rail Line on the west coast of the state, using a RM3 million allocation.
