Selangor Journal: Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election: Harapan candidate to be decided before April 27
HULU SELANGOR, April 14 — The Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is expected to be announced several days before the nomination day on April 27.
Selangor Harapan chairman Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the coalition’s central leadership will decide on the candidate based on the list of names submitted by DAP.
“The candidate announcement may be made within three or four days before April 27.
“For now, (we) are waiting for confirmation from the centre (central leadership) to determine the candidate, and I believe DAP has already forwarded several names,” he told the press after the Kampung Ampang Pecah Hari Raya Aidifitri feast at Balairaya Taman Ampang Pecah in Kuala Kubu Baharu today.
During the event, Amirudin also met several local leaders to provide assurances that the Unity Government machinery is ready to face the by-election on May 11.
“We understand the situation of the upcoming by-election, so I also met with friends and machinery (volunteers), whom I felt needed to be briefed and explained (about the operations).
“I hope we are on the right track to retain Kuala Kubu Baharu in the upcoming by-election,” he said.
On April 4, the Election Commission set the by-election’s polling day to May 11, while the candidates’ nomination and early voting are scheduled for April 27 and May 7, respectively.
The state constituency seat became vacant following the death of its incumbent Lee Kee Hiong on March 21.
The 58-year-old, who first assumed the seat in 2013 and defended it for three straight terms, passed away after battling cancer for several years.
