Selangor Journal: KSSA to begin construction in Sep, expected completion in 2026 — MB

SHAH ALAM, July 2 — The Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) development project, across a 76.08-hectare area, is expected to begin in September, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the complex, which is expected to be completed in 2026, will help the state government strengthen the sports development programme in Selangor.

“The construction will start no later than September because we want to change the approach and the role of the stadium,” Amirudin said in a special Selamat Pagi Malaysia interview broadcast live from Pantai Batu Laut in Tanjung Sepat, earlier today.

The programme will be implemented consistently to ensure the potential and talent of sports in the state continues to be strengthened across generations.

“Our strength in sports has actually been championed since the 1990s, but after 2010, there have been competitors like Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur as they have more consistent sports development programmes.

“What we necessary now is a consistent programme, and the issue is funding and facilities. Alhamdulillah, even if Selangor is not at a world-class level, the sports facilities we have are always up to date and meet the requirements,” he said.

Prior to this, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI’s Special Projects Unit chief executive officer Datuk Ruslan Abdul Aziz said the KSSA development project is not only limited to the stadium but will also include recreational, leisure, and business areas.

It is in line with the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 3 station through a public-private partnership with Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad, without utilising public funds.

KSSA’s redevelopment was carried out following an estimated RM787 million in expenditure for repairs. RM56 million was used for maintenance and repairs from 2013 to 2022.
