Selangor Journal: Flood volunteers should refer to exco to avoid goods overlap - MB
SHAH ALAM, Dec 21 — External volunteers who wish to help flood victims in Selangor are advised to contact with state executive councillor for youth generation Mohd Khairuddin Othman, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said this is to prevent any losses or overlap of donated aid goods at any given location.
“This does not mean we want to obstruct or get in their way. What we hope for is to focus on these localities which should properly get aid.
“We welcome such initiatives, if they wish to go by themselves it is alright, but my worry is on the financial and manpower losses, if the area volunteers go to has already received assistance,” Amirudin said during a special press conference regarding the current floods situation in Selangor, at the State Secretariat Building earlier today.
He added Mohd Khairuddin’s telephone number as volunteer and youth coordinater, as well as the numbers of the relevant parties, will be immediately made known to the public on social media.
Asides from Mohd Khairuddin, Amirudin said other state executive councillors also have a role to play in the efforts to ensure Selangor recovers following the floods.
They include V. Ganabatirau as welfare aid coordinator, Ng Sze Han for flood areas cleanups, and Izham Hashim for infrastructure recovery.
Their colleagues include Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud and Borhan Aman Shah for health aid, Rodziah Ismail for temporary relief centre aid, and Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni for masjid and surau monitoring.
