Selangor Journal: E-sports sees positive growth in Selangor, gains global participation
GOMBAK, Feb 20 — Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that the e-sports industry had shown a positive development in Selangor.
The Menter Besar said that several naysayers had thought that the programme was unproductive and did not benefit the young generation when it was first introduced in the state seven years ago.
“I am pleased to have been the one to kick-start the initiative when I was a state executive councillor… at that time, many were cynical and thought it would have been a waste. Why be involved in something uncertain?
“But at the time, I was confident that it would expand and today it has been proven as it has reached both national and global levels,” he said after launching the E-Sports Management Workshop at Dewan Kampung Melayu Batu Caves here, yesterday.
Amirudin said the development of the industry is not merely about video games, but it also provides other skills and helps generate income for those who venture into it.
“Team Selangor is involved in introducing e-games in a better and managed manner.
“I believe that this would not only get them to play ‘games’ but also recognise the opportunities that lie ahead,” he said.
The e-sports development in Selangor this year involves three key branches to produce more global industry players.
Selangor e-Sports Association in last December had stated that this includes players, commentators and coaches to complete the e-sports ecosystem and build a career with a lucrative salary.
