Selangor Journal: 65,000 SPM candidates follow free state tuition prog — MB
SUBANG JAYA, July 27 — Upwards of 65,000 candidates for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination this year are participating in the Tuisyen Rakyat Selangor programme (PTRS), said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the education empowerment programme has helped students involved to achieve excellent results in the SPM.
Its efficacy was proven as 89 participants in last year’s PTRS obtained excellent results when they sat for the SPM.
“This is indicative of PTRS’ excellent quality since some of these students cannot afford additional education or tuition. Some of them may have failed (the SPM), but with our help and guidance through PTRS, 89 of them became outstanding students.”
“The state government is pleased with being able to assist and provide these students with the opportunities to pursue higher education in the future,” Amirudin said.
He was speaking at the launch of the Tekad Pendidikan #KitaSelangor: Memberdaya Mahasiswa Berprestasi, Merealisasi Selangor Madani event, at Dewan Bankuet in Universiti Putra Malaysia, earlier today.
Meanwhile, the Menteri Besar said Yayasan Selangor has allocated RM467,000 for education empowerment programmes this year, starting from primary schools and all the way to higher education institutions.
