NST: Selangor government offering 5kg bag of rice for RM13 to its residents
KUALA LUMPUR: Taking into consideration the concerns of the people following the abrupt increase in rice prices, the Selangor government has extended an offer of RM13 per 5kg bag of rice to its residents.
Its Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the sale will be implemented through the State Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) at 4 PKPS outlets.
They will also have mobile sales at three locations every day until December 2023.
Amirudin also gave assurance that the supply of local white rice in the state, which requires 45,500 metric tonnes of rice per month, was sufficient at least until the end of September 2023.
"The supply of local white rice will begin to stabilise starting from October, as rice production in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia resumes, and Selangor also commences its harvest," he said in a statement.
The state government, Amirudin said, had established the Selangor Rice and Rice Regulatory Authority (KSPDS) to handle issues related to shortages of stock in shops and markets.
"Selangor people who encounter problems with supply can contact KSPDS at 03-32898419 or 01702230771 (for call and WhatsApp).
"The state government through KSPDS is committed to taking action within 24 hours to overcome local white rice supply complaints," he added.
