NST: Enough politics, Selangor needs to catch up with economic developments - Sultan Sharafuddin

KLANG: Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said immediate action must be taken to ensure Selangor remains a major contributor to the Malaysian economy.

His Majesty said the state has recently fallen behind Penang, Johor and even Sarawak in terms of investments and export value of goods.

"This fall may have happened without us realising and perhaps we have failed to overcome it immediately,"

"The Yang Berhormat need to realise this fact and reality. Swift action must be taken to deter it from affecting Selangor's reputation as the main contributor to Malaysia's economy.

"I place high hopes in the Yang Berhormat to give the best services by going down to the ground and see for yourselves developments that are planned and those that are on-going," he said in his decree after the swearing-in ceremony of state executive councillors at Istana Alam Shah, here, today.

Sultan Sharafuddin also reminded the newly-formed state government to quickly address the concerns of the people, especially in terms of infrastructure, development and daily struggles.

Highlighting the occurrences of floods which had inconvenient the people, the sultan called for the implementation of short, medium and long term plans to resolve the problem.

"What is the point of us being proud with the achievements of rapid economic progress and the status of the richest state as well as having the highest Gross Domestic Product in the country if issues related to the basic needs of the people are not managed well?," he said.

His Majesty said the people were also tired of politics and he, too, had had enough of listening to it.

"It is time to think of the state, country and future for the young. Make Selangor state great again as it was in the glory days.

"I am turning 78 this year and it is my hope and dream that before I "close my eyes", I want to see Selangor rise again, progress forward in all aspects of physical and spiritual, have sustainable economic growth, unity among the multi-racial society where people live comfortably, in peace, harmony and lasting prosperity," he said.

Sultan Sharafuddin also said that he wanted all Selangor assemblymen to uphold integrity at all time.

"Stay away from all forms of corruption and abuse of power, whether for your own interest or certain quarters when carrying out your duties." he said.
