The Star: COVID-19 - Malaysia records 325 new infections, total now at 5,036,918

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 325 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday (Feb 1), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,036,918 since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 323 of Wednesday's new Covid-19 infections were locally transmitted while there were three imported cases.

The portal also reported that 113 individuals recovered from Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,990,079 since the pandemic began.

KKMNow also reported that as at 11.59pm Wednesday, there were 9,897 active Covid-19 infections in the country, with 96.1% of patients, or 9,507 individuals, observing home quarantine.

There are currrently 376 Covid-19 patients, or 3.8% of active cases, seeking treatment in hospitals nationwide while 14 individuals, or 0.2%, were admitted to intensive care units (ICU) nationwide.

KKMNow reported that of those in ICU as at 11.59pm Wednesday, five were unventilated while nine required ventilator support.

Malaysia's current hospital utilisation rate stands at 76.2% while the ICU utilisation rate nationwide is 64.7%.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that no deaths due to Covid-19 were recorded on Wednesday.
