Selangor Journal: 10,045 entrepreneurs signed up under Plats for business expansion

SHAH ALAM, June 14 — The Platform Selangor (Plats) initiative, which was introduced to assist traders affected by the Covid-19 outbreak and movement restrictions in expanding their enterprises, has attracted 10,045 entrepreneurs since its inception in 2020.

According to the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, 7,177 traders signed up in 2021, whereas 2,868 were among the pioneers in 2020.

“A large number of them work in the food and beverage industry. They were able to generate income using the platform and were also provided support in growing their business,” stated an MBI spokesman.

According to the state agency, local governments have also helped in the economic development of traders, with the Kajang Municipal Council recording the biggest number of enterprises with 463 applicants.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had announced the Plats initiative on April 18, 2020, as an effort to help small businesses generate income during the fasting month.

On April 11 last year, Plats 2.0 was introduced to complete the Selangor Digitalisation Agenda ecosystem by moving entrepreneurs over to the digital platform.

The Plats 3.0 digital platform, which was announced in April, involved the collaboration with Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) and Selangor Digital Partner (Rakan Digital Selangor or RDS).
