NST: Selangor to lend 500k Covid-19 vaccine doses to CITF
KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor will "lend" 500,000 doses of its Covid-19 vaccine to the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the decision was made following a discussion with Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah recently.
He said the vaccine doses will be used in other states which are in need of the supply.
"Previously we procured 2.5 million doses.
"Now we have remaining stocks of the vaccines, so we agreed to lend it to CITF," he said during a press conference held via Zoom today.
He said that CITF can return the 500,000 doses in two months and it will be kept for use as third booster shots.
During discussions with Dr Noor Hisham, he said it is possible the people might be given a third vaccine shot next year.
However, no decision has been made pending reviews by experts on the need for a booster shot against Covid-19.
"There should be a clear indication from the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the need for a third booster shot," he added.
