NST: 80 per cent of clusters in Selangor are from factories, says MB
KUALA LUMPUR: 91 per cent of the total number of clusters in Selangor are workplace related, of which a whopping 80 per cent were from factory clusters and 11 per cent from construction site clusters.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said these were part of the 125 total active clusters in the state.
"Based on this development, we have allocated 2 million vaccines for 1 million workers, including the foreign workers," he said in a Facebook live broadcast today.
As such, Amirudin said Selangor state government had ramped up its vaccination programme by placing a booking of 2.5 million doses of Sinovac vaccine from Pharmaniaga Berhad as part of the effort to inoculate 1.25 million people under Selangor Vaccine Programme (SelVAX).
He said SelVAX was launched to expedite the current vaccination initiative in order to achieve herd immunity in the state by October this year, while complementing the current National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP).
He said SelVAX was divided into two categories namely SelVAX Community (free for targeted groups) and SelVAX Industry (to be paid by companies, free for the workers),"
Amirudin said Selgate Healthcare had been appointed to implement the programme in cooperation with Pharmaniaga for vaccine supplies.
"We have allocated over RM237 million for this programme and made bookings for 2.5 million doses directly in order to vaccinate 1.25 million people (under SelVAX)," he said.
"We expect to inoculate over 250,000 Selangor residents under SelVAX Community, especially those who haven't received their vaccines.
"However, the supplies are not included in the 4 million vaccine doses allocated by the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF)," he said.
"Among the targeted recipients under SelVAX Community are senior citizens, the B40 community, Peduli Rakyat Initiative recipients and other identified groups.
"Although more than 3.98 million (83.42 per cent) of people in Selangor had registered to be vaccinated as of June 28, only 851,118 people have received their first dose, with 270,221 people having completed their vaccination."
He said among the reasons for low vaccination rate was limited supply of vaccines.
On SelVAX Industry, over 50,000 companies had made bookings for the vaccines, and 2 million workers had registered to be vaccinated.
"Companies cannot charge their workers for vaccination under this programme," he said.
Among the companies that have taken part with SelVAX Industry included 99 Speedmart, Ecoworld and Touch N' Go.
Recipients under SelVAX, he said, could get their vaccines through the five mega vaccination centres (PPVs), six community PPVs, 15 Selcare clinics, as well as 1,228 panel clinics throughout Klang Valley.
"Some 43,500 vaccine doses will be distributed to the 26 PPVs (mega PPVs, community PPVs and Selcare clinics) in order to increase our daily vaccination rate so that we reach our target of achieving herd immunity by October this year," he said.
