  • Dato’ Hasan Azhari, CEO of Invest Selangor Berhad,

  • Dato’ Seri Subahan Kamal, Chairman of ALCOM Group Berhad,

  • Dato’ Tony Lim, Managing Director of SCland Development SdnBhd,

  • Honoured guests,

  • Members of the media,

  • Ladies and gentlemen.

  • Good afternoon.

  • Two weeks ago, before kicking off the penultimate ‘Jelajah Maju Bersama’ statewide visit to each district in Selangor, I stopped by ‘Roti Canai Terowong in Kanchong Darat, Kuala Langat’ for breakfast.

  • It came highly recommended by my friends in Banting who said, “This is a must-try spot for breakfast in Banting’.

  • And they were right. The stall was packed slightly before 6am and the owner told me how far they had come as a family after starting the stall some years ago.

  • Similarly, the first phase stretching 10 years of Pakatan Harapan’s leadership in Selangor was a case of rebooting, reconfiguring and recalibrating the state to correct the mistakes of the past while improving the quality of lives for Selangor’s working class.

  • The 10 years saw 43 various social uplifting initiatives through the now-famed Inisiatif Peduli Rakyat, from education and welfare assistance, to health screening and micro/small business loans.

  • That was the first phase.

  • Over breakfast in that roti canai stall, I thought to myself, “If only many others in Selangor would have a chance to try this roti canai because it was certainly very good”.

  • In the digital revolution era, we do not go out looking for food, but food comes to us at the click of a button or a mobile application.

  • And that is where I see Selangor’s position in phase 2 of Harapan’s administration in the state; a data-driven approach to diversifying Selangor’s economy and improving our service delivery to people.

  • Last year, the records tumbled as Selangor gained RM Ten Point Eight Three Seven billion (RM10.837) in Foreign Direct Investment, a Four Hundred Point Seven percent increase (400.7%) from 2017, which brought in RM Two Point One Six Four billion (RM2.164 billion).

  • This demonstrates what foreign and local investors value; the commitment of Selangor’s state government to transparency, efficiency and stability.

  • These key factors, coupled with the various efforts to diversify and further promote Selangor as a viable investment destination in the region have been effective.

  • Invest Selangor Berhad, SITEC as well as the collective efforts of Local Authorities, District Offices and other agencies must be commended as they have been working tirelessly in the past year.

  • In this era of unprecedented growth, Selangor aims to place solid building blocks to a more stable and prosperous future rather than rest on our laurels.

  • As the world hurtles towards a digital future aiming to link people, data and objects, it is key for Selangor to stay ahead of the curve instead of playing catch up.

  • Selangor is eager to diversify our economy to include investments within the digital economy, in fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, E-Commerce, Cloud Computing, E-Sports, Financial Technology or Fintech, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0).

  • However, my administration is cognizant of the fact that people have to be the fulcrum of growth in Selangor by ensuring no one will be left behind and be victims of the digital divide.

  • This is where the likes of SITEC and others play a key role in equipping local SMEs with the skills of digital marketing and business scaling to maximise the potential in the digital economy.

  • The public and private sectors must make a commitment to invest in startups, creating an agile economy which is able to weather external shocks by providing internal solutions to our economic needs.

  • The e-wallet wave and better logistics and delivery has seen the reduction in use of bank notes and an increase in online payments, while stall and restaurant operators like the roti canai shop in Kuala Langat I mentioned can avail themselves to a variety of food delivery interfaces like FoodPanda or Grab Food.

  • These advancements make the day-to-day interface between a buyer and seller much simpler and straightforward from times gone by.

  • This is the quantum leap Selangor is capable of and with the necessary strategic initiatives, I am confident we will be able to make this transition.

  • The SITEC E-Commerce Hub Award to SCland for the development of the EM Hub marks and important step for Selangor towards New Retail – where Online to Offiline (O2O) and the Online Merger with Offline businesses (OMO) are rising.

  • At the E-Commerce Hub, sellers can operate remotely while having a storage and showroom area.

  • SITEC will also facilitate a digital economy system which will include a payment gateways, logistics services as well as talent development programmes relating to e-commerce.

  • This will also be an opportunity for traditional businesses to capitalise on the one-stop e-commerce centre to make that quantum leap into the digital economy, provided they are given the necessary assistance and direction to make the transition into the digital space.

  • I congratulate Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, chairman of SITEC, as well as the Chief Executive of SITEC, Yong Kai Ping, for leading the efforts towards ensuring a comprehensive Selangor E-Commerce Hub Certification process that encourages a unified approach between the state government, property developers and key players in the digital space.

  • I hope that this first-of-its-kind E-Commerce Hub Certification will be well received by the business community as a gateway to the digital ecosystem.

  • I look forward to seeing the mushrooming of similar E-Commerce Hub initiatives, keeping Selangor ahead of the game and turning it into a regional and global trading hub that is ripe with opportunities in the digital economy ecosystem.

  • Thank you.
